Biography of William H. Frist Bill Frist will address the Economic Club on his recent Tennessee education reform initiative, TN SCORE. Frist, a Senator from
Tennessee, was born in Nashville, and attended public and private schools there. He graduated from Princeton University in 1974
and from Harvard Medical School in 1978. Senator Frist worked as a heart and lung transplant surgeon and as director of the heart and lung transplantation program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He authored When Every Moment Counts: What You Need To Know About Bioterrorism From the Senate’s Only Doctor in 2002. Senator Frist was elected to the United States Senate in 1994, reelected in 2000, serving from 1995 to 2007. He was chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee from 2001 to 2003 and majority leader from 2003 to 2007. He was not a candidate for reelection in 2006.
